Buckaroo

Born and raised a city boy
I only knew my family’s joy
Till the day that I set out alone
With a dollar hidden in my pants
My thumb was only worth a glance
But soon my thumb would take me away I know
And I may be short a buck or two
But I’m the same old buckaroo
And shootin' straight don’t make a good man great
North or South it’s all the same
When you’re searching out your name
And I can wait as long as it takes
Barrooms I’ve seen plenty of
Where women offered me their love
And sometimes I just couldn’t turn ‘em down
She’d say, “Man I know this perfect spot
Hey it’s only half a block
Forgive me but I need that money now”
Well I may be short a buck or two
But I’m the same old buckaroo
And Honey you aint gonna read me off your rates
Now you may be pretty as a picture, Sis
But you better sit and listen to this
I can wait as long as it takes
Now the sun is setting in the West
And I’m still wondering what is best
I guess I’ll have to wait it out some more
But if someone should ask you where I am
Tell ‘em I’m a movin’ man
Cause someday I will find that open door
And I may be short a buck or two
But I’m the same old buckaroo
From Denver up to Minnesota’s lakes
And I don’t care if it rains or shines
Cause I’ll be singing these lonesome rhymes
And I can wait as long as it takes
